TRUSTIO BRINGS REAL TRUSTPILOT REVIEWS TO YOUR STORE TO BOOST SALES AND CREDIBILITY

Trustpilot Review Widget vs Shopify Review App: What Is the Difference?

Trustpilot Widget vs Shopify Review App Which One
Compare a Trustpilot review widget with a Shopify product review app. Learn which builds business trust, which provides product-level proof, and when your store should use both.

Trustpilot Widget vs Shopify Review App, Both tools show social proof, but they usually solve different trust problems.

Use a Trustpilot review widget when you already have useful Trustpilot feedback and want shoppers to trust your business. Use a Shopify product review app when buyers need reviews about a specific product, such as ratings, photos, videos, fit notes, or verified-purchase context. Use both when customers need proof that the store is reliable and proof that the product is right for them.

The categories overlap. Trustpilot supports Service Reviews and Product Reviews, while some Shopify apps collect store and product feedback. Choose based on the review subject, collection method, and data connection.

First Decide What Customers Need to Trust

Start with the shopper’s unanswered question, not the app feature list.

Trust in the business

Business reviews cover customer service, delivery, returns, billing, support, and the overall buying experience. They are useful when the store is unfamiliar or customers search its name before buying. A Trustpilot Service Review can help answer these business-level concerns.

Trust in the product

Product reviews show whether an item matches its photos, fits correctly, performs well, or meets quality expectations. They work best when connected to the correct product. Photos, videos, attributes, and verified-purchase labels can add context that a company review cannot.

When shoppers need both

A shopper can trust a product but distrust the seller. The reverse can also happen. This creates two trust layers:

  1. Business trust: Can I trust this store to take my payment, deliver my order, and help if something goes wrong?
  2. Product confidence: Is this specific item right for me?

Expensive, technical, size-sensitive, or high-risk products may need both layers. Each system should still have a clear job.

What Is a Trustpilot Review Widget?

A Trustpilot review widget is the visible display layer for Trustpilot review data. The larger workflow may also include a public company profile, invitations, moderation, responses, Service Reviews, and Product Reviews.

Trustpilot is not limited to company reviews. Trustpilot Product Reviews can collect product-linked feedback and may support customer photos, attributes, APIs, and product-focused SEO features. A basic company-review widget does not automatically include those capabilities.

Trustpilot rebuilt its Shopify app in July 2026. It now supports Theme Editor app blocks. Existing users must reconnect their Business account and re-add widgets because legacy settings do not transfer.

If you want setup options rather than a category comparison, read how to add Trustpilot reviews to Shopify.

What Is a Shopify Product Review App?

A Shopify product review app usually manages more than the block shoppers see. Depending on the app, it may:

  • Request, moderate, and publish reviews after an order.
  • Connect feedback to a customer, order, and product.
  • Display ratings, text, photos, videos, attributes, and questions.
  • Add product review structured data.
  • Group reviews across variants or share eligible reviews with supported channels.

Judge.me, Loox, Okendo, Stamped.io, and Yotpo are examples. Features differ, but an app can manage collection, product connections, purchase data, storage, and display. See our guide to the best Shopify product review apps for app-level choices.

Trustpilot Review Widget vs Shopify Product Review App: Key Differences

The tools differ most in review source, data connection, collection workflow, and intended use.

Review source and ownership

First identify where the original review was created. A Trustpilot widget normally displays Trustpilot data, while a Shopify product review app may manage feedback from a post-purchase request, storefront form, or import.

Displaying a review does not always transfer ownership of the source record. Keep the source clear. If you need to move feedback, read how to import reviews to Shopify.

Company reviews versus product reviews

The page where a review appears does not define the review type.

A company review shown on a product page is still a company review unless it is connected to that product. “Fast shipping and helpful support” may reduce concern about the seller, but it does not prove that a pair of shoes fits correctly. Likewise, a five-star product review does not prove that the store offers reliable support.

Collection and verification

A review’s verification status depends on how it was collected and connected to a purchase. Check whether the system can connect:

  • The reviewer to a customer.
  • The purchase to an order.
  • The feedback to the correct product.
  • The review request to a real transaction.

Rules differ by platform. Check the documentation before calling imported reviews “verified purchases.”

Photos, videos, and product-specific feedback

Product review apps are usually stronger for visual evidence such as fit photos, shade comparisons, or assembly videos. Compare the exact collection and display features you need. Our Trustio vs Loox comparison explains this difference.

Storefront display and page placement

Company feedback works near the brand introduction or when shoppers worry about delivery and support. Product feedback belongs near product choices. Too many widgets can create clutter, conflicting scores, and slower pages.

Product SEO data and Shop synchronization

A visible widget does not automatically create product review schema or make a review eligible for the Shop app.

Shopify currently supports Shop product review synchronization with Judge.me, Loox, Okendo, Stamped.io, and Yotpo. According to Shopify’s partner sync requirements, an app-collected review must be linked through metaobjects to a Customer ID, Order ID, and Product ID. Reviews uploaded from CSV or moved between partner apps through CSV are not eligible for Shop display.

Structured data is a separate technical layer. Even with valid schema, Google decides whether to show review stars. Never mark company feedback as product reviews because it appears on a product page.

Cost, maintenance, and app overlap

Compare total effort, not only the fee. A two-app setup may create:

  • Duplicate review requests.
  • Conflicting ratings from different sources.
  • More scripts on the storefront.
  • Extra moderation and support work.
  • Two dashboards, billing plans, and confusing source labels.

As of July 24, 2026, the official Trustpilot Shopify app lists a Free plan and paid annual plans, replacing older paid-only descriptions.

With two tools, assign one request workflow to business feedback and the other to product feedback. Do not ask the same customer for both at once.

Which One Should You Choose?

Choose the smallest setup that answers the shopper’s real trust question.

Choose a Trustpilot review widget when

  • You already have useful Trustpilot feedback.
  • Shoppers check your company reputation before ordering.
  • The main concern is delivery, returns, service, or support.
  • You want external proof on the homepage, landing page, cart, or a supported checkout area.

Choose a Shopify product review app when

  • You need product-linked ratings, photos, videos, fit notes, or attributes.
  • You want post-purchase requests connected to Shopify orders.
  • Product structured data or eligible Shop synchronization matters.
  • You need Q&A, review groups, referrals, or channel syndication.

Use both when

  • Customers need proof about both the seller and the product.
  • You have strong Trustpilot feedback but little product-level content.
  • One tool handles company feedback and the other handles product feedback.
  • You can label each source and prevent duplicate requests.

For a tool-specific example, see Trustio vs Judge.me.

Avoid using both when

  • Both tools solve the same problem or send repeated requests.
  • The widgets show different ratings without context.
  • Your team cannot maintain two dashboards and moderation workflows.
  • The extra scripts or cost do not answer a new buying concern.

Where Should Each Review Type Appear on Shopify?

Review placement should follow the question shoppers ask at each stage.

Shopify location Best review type Main purpose
Homepage Company or Trustpilot reviews Establish overall legitimacy
Collection page Product star ratings Help shoppers compare products
Product page near the title Product rating and review count Reduce uncertainty before add to cart
Product page lower section Detailed product reviews, photos, videos, or Q&A Answer item-specific questions
Landing page Reviews related to the offer or customer outcome Support the campaign message
Cart Compact company trust signal Reduce concern about the seller
Checkout Compact company or service trust signal, where supported Reinforce confidence without causing distraction
Thank You page Clear, neutral review invitation Collect feedback after purchase

If two review types appear on one page, label the source and purpose. For example, keep a product rating near the product title and place a smaller “What customers say about our service” section lower on the page.

Where Trustio Fits

Trustio fits best when useful Trustpilot feedback already exists and you want to bring it into supported parts of the Shopify buying journey.

The current Trust.io Shopify App Store listing confirms that the app can:

  • Import Trustpilot reviews.
  • Automatically sync new reviews daily.
  • Display reviews in Carousel or Flex grid layouts.
  • Provide widgets designed for mobile and desktop.
  • Support listed placements including checkout.
  • Add a Rate Us widget to the Thank You page.

Checkout availability can depend on the Shopify plan, checkout surface, theme, and current app configuration. Confirm the exact placement for your store before choosing an app.

Trustio is not currently documented as a complete replacement for product-review collection, product mapping, verified-purchase workflows, native photo or video collection, Shop synchronization, or product review schema. Use a product review app as well if you need those features.

When you curate a promotional widget, keep the original source clear and do not change the meaning of customer feedback. The FTC’s Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule guidance also warns businesses about deceptive review practices and review suppression.

FAQs

Is a Trustpilot widget the same as a Shopify review app?

No. A widget displays review data. A Shopify review app may also collect, store, verify, moderate, connect, and share that data. Many apps include widgets, but the terms do not mean the same thing.

Can Trustpilot reviews be used as Shopify product reviews?

Only when the feedback is about a specific product and connected to it. A Trustpilot company or Service Review does not become a product review when placed on a product page.

Does a Trustpilot widget replace Judge.me or Loox?

Usually not. A Trustpilot widget brings business reputation into Shopify. Judge.me and Loox offer broader product-linked collection and display features.

Can I use Trustio and a product review app together?

Yes. Use Trustio for existing Trustpilot feedback and a product review app for product-linked ratings or UGC. Separate the widgets, label each source, and avoid duplicate requests.

Can imported Trustpilot reviews appear in the Shop app?

Do not assume so. Shopify only syncs eligible reviews from supported partner apps, and the review must include the required customer, order, and product connections. Trustio is not currently listed as a supported Shop product review sync partner.

Do review widgets help Shopify SEO?

They can add useful review content and help shoppers understand a store or product. Product review apps may also add structured data. However, a visible widget does not automatically create valid product review schema, and structured data does not guarantee review stars in Google.

Final Recommendation

Choose based on what shoppers still need to trust:

  • Existing Trustpilot reputation plus a business-trust problem: Use a Trustpilot-focused widget.
  • Need product ratings, visual content, and order-linked feedback: Use a Shopify product review app.
  • Need both trust layers: Use both carefully, label each source, and avoid duplicate review requests.
